OLIVER TWIST
SHOW DATE: 9/25
SPEAKER(S): Ellen Handler Spitz

Here's some information about the film:

Directed by Roman Polanski. Screenplay by Ronald Harwood, adapted from the novel by Charles Dickens.
2005, USA, PG-13. Runtime 130 min.

Based on the Charles Dickens novel, Oliver Twist tells the tale of an orphan boy who runs away from a workhouse to the less than wholesome streets of London. Oliver is taken in by a gang of pickpockets and thieves who are trained to steal for their master Fagin. This portrait of a simple child caught up in the whirl of Industrial Revolution England resonates as much now, in the modern world, as it did the day it was written. Oliver Twist has been the subject of at least twenty film adaptations including a musical. It behooves us to take a look and see what Roman Polanski has to show us on the matter.
