Here's some information about the film:
"We don't need another British gangster flick. Fortunately, Sexy Beast isn't just another British gangster flick." -- Andrew Collins, Empire

Gary Dove (Ray Winstone) is blissfully retired, living in a Spanish villa paradise with the wife he adores. His perfect lifestyle is shattered by the arrival of his gangster nemesis Don Logan (Ben Kingsley), intent on persuading him to return to London for a big heist. Desperate not to sacrifice his carefully built idyll, Dove is drawn into a shocking battle of wills with Logan, ending in an explosive psychological showdown, and a sensational underwater bank robbery in which he must risk everything to protect the woman he loves.
Songcatcher
SHOW DATE: 6/10
SPEAKER(S): Geoff Himes
Here's some information about the film:
Set in 1907, Maggie Greenwald's Songcatcher stars critically acclaimed Janet McTeer as Dr. Lily Penleric, a musicologist overlooked for a promotion at her male-dominated university for the last time. She retires to the Appalachian countryside to spend the summer with her sister, a teacher running a struggling rural school. While there, Lily makes the startling discovery that the local folk songs are distinctive versions of English ballads, probably the purest forms in existence. She sets out to catalogue them scientifically, recording them on a phonograph and transcribing them onto sheet music. Her project is met with skepticism, though, by Tom (Aidan Quinn), who accuses her of exploiting his friends and relatives. She argues that she is preserving and sharing his culture with the world.

Songcatcher features an amazing soundtrack, replete with complete versions of the quaint music of these people, songs such as "Barbara Allen" that we have all heard before but never quite like this. Music lovers will want to catch this one for sure. (Excerpted from Annlee Ellingson's Box Office Online review)
Guest Speaker Geoff Himes writes about music for such publications as the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Rolling Stone, Oxford America, and Country Music Magazine, to name a few.
PLEASE NOTE! On Sunday, June 17, Cinema Sundays will conclude with SEXY BEAST, the much anticipated debut film by British Music Video directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Ben Kingsley. Information on the film is forthcoming.
