Cinema Sundays concludes its 41st series with the Baltimore premiere of The Grand. CSC takes a break from its usual dysfunctional family fare with a mockumentary based on tournament poker. Its been a while since weve had a comedy at CSC and after Sleepwalking we could all use a laugh or two. This film was completely improvised and none of it was filmed in Saskatchewan. Sounds like a good beginning.
Our speaker for this week is WYPR sports reporter Mike Lurie. Mike was with us for Wordplay (Crosswords) and its a pleasure to welcome him back for The Grand (Poker!).
I want to thank Chris Reed for doing such a fabulous job with Sleepwalking a couple of weeks ago. We will definitely have you back.
A Few quick announcements;
1)La Scalas production of Maria Stuarda is positively fabulous. I just saw it and spending Sunday evening watching it would be a fine use of your time. 6:30 at the Charles for Bel Canto splendor.
2)Spring is right around the corner and a CSC gift certificate for our Spring series is the perfect thing for just about anyone you love, hate, or feel indifferent about. CSC series 42 begins on 4/6.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Cinema Sundays at the Charles Continues its 41st series on March 16th with the Baltimore Premiere of Sleepwalking. Directed by Bill Maher. Written by Zac Stanford. Starring Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Nick Stahl, AnnaSophia Robb, Dennis Hopper.
2008 USA. Rated R. 100 Minutes.
Synopsis
Forced out of her home after her boyfriend is arrested, Joleen Reedy (Charlize Theron) needs a place to stay with her 11-year-old daughter, Tara (AnnaSophia Robb). She turns for help to her younger brother, James (Nick Stahl) a simple and overly trusting man who doesnt hesitate to welcome them into his modest rental apartment.
Almost as soon as she moves in, however, Joleen hits the road with another man. Utterly ill-equipped to be the sole guardian of an adolescent girl, James does his best to make his distraught niece happy. But before long, things spin out of control: he loses his road crew job and Tara is put into foster care. Additionally, old wounds from his emotionally abusive and sometimes violent father (Dennis Hopper) begin to reopen as James is forced to re-examine his life.
Thats when James makes a fateful decision that will bring his life full circle and force him to face his demons. He takes off with Tara and the pair assumes new identities as father and daughter. What starts out as a ploy to evade authorities takes on a deeper significance as James strives to become the dad Tara never had, and for the first time finds a true purpose in life.

http://www.sleepwalking-themovie.com/main.html Cinema Sundays continues its 41st series with the Baltimore premiere of Sleepwalking. Sleepwalking sounds like a perfect Cinema Sundays film combining a dysfunctional family (our favorite thing) with a coming of age film. OK I confess it was Charlize Theron who sold this film for me. Yes! I would watch her in just about anything (ahh Monster, the ultimate date movie).
Our speaker this week is Christopher Reed, Assistant Professor in the Film, Video and Theatre Department at Villa Julie College. Its a pleasure to welcome him to Cinema Sundays.
I want to thank Tim McCoy for speaking at last weeks screening of The Witnesses. I also want to thank the audience for sharing their experiences as well.
