SHOW DATE: 12/2
SPEAKER(S): To Be Announced
Here's some information about the film:
Who directed it? Catherine Breillat (Romance, 36 fillette)
Who is in it? Anais Reboux, Roxane Mesquida
What is it about? A provocative tale of two sisters, one svelt, the other portly, who compete for the affaction of boys while on holiday with their parents in the south of France. The thin 15-year-old girl, Elena (Mesquida), flaunts her pretty young body, while her overweight 12-year-old sister, Anaïs (Reboux), looks on in resentful fascination. While the complexity of the relationship between the sisters is awesome, it is nothing compared to the horrible consequences of their actions.
Why should I see it? "Reboux's extraordinary performance conveys Anaïs's mixture of precocious insight, animal canniness and vulnerability so powerfully that it ranks among the richest screen portrayals of a child ever filmed." -- Stephen Holden, NEW YORK TIMES

Why should I see it? "Pointed, upbeat, and very funny, Sidewalks of New York sets the standard for comedy in 2001." --Arthur Lazere, Culture Valture.net
